Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Launches Vibativ in China after NMPA Approval via SciClone Deal
CPIX•Cumberland Pharmaceuticals launched its patented antibiotic Vibativ in China after NMPA approval through an exclusive marketing partnership with SciClone. This expansion provides treatments for hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia, including MRSA, in the world's second-largest pharmaceutical market.
1. Launch and Regulatory Approval
Cumberland Pharmaceuticals began commercialization of Vibativ (telavancin) injection in China following approval by the National Medical Products Administration, enabling treatment of hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by Gram-positive pathogens when alternatives are unsuitable.
2. Market Expansion Opportunity
China, as the world's second-largest pharmaceutical market, faces rising rates of MRSA and other resistant Gram-positive infections, creating significant demand for novel antibiotics with potent activity and once-daily dosing convenience.
3. SciClone Distribution Partnership
Under an exclusive agreement, SciClone Pharmaceuticals holds rights to register, promote and distribute Vibativ across China, managing local marketing, sales and regulatory compliance while Cumberland earns royalties on net product sales.
