Deere & Co. Agrees to $99M Settlement Over Right to Repair Lawsuit

DEDE

Deere & Co. agreed to pay $99 million to settle a 2022 class action over withheld repair software and dealer monopolization, creating a fund for farmers who paid for equipment repairs from Jan. 10, 2018 through preliminary approval. The settlement provides injunctive relief to expand diagnostic tools and repair resources.

1. Settlement Agreement

Deere & Co. has agreed to pay $99 million to resolve a 2022 class action alleging it withheld repair software and conspired with dealers to monopolize service markets. The deal, pending court approval, establishes a settlement fund for customers who paid for equipment repairs between Jan. 10, 2018 and preliminary approval.

2. Injunctive Relief Provisions

Under the proposed settlement, Deere will expand access to diagnostic software, repair manuals, and technical resources to support independent repair options. These measures aim to dismantle previous barriers and ensure farmers can perform or source timely equipment maintenance.

3. Ongoing Litigation Risks

Deere remains subject to a separate 2025 lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission alleging unfair repair practices that inflated farmer costs and restricted timely fixes. That case poses potential additional penalties or operational changes depending on court outcomes.
