DEFSEC has launched Lightning, a cloud-hosted, TAK-based situational awareness SaaS with zero deployment complexity and initial onboarding by an Ontario border police agency. Subscriptions cost CAD15–50 per device monthly, targeting a North American first responder market estimated at CAD450 million to CAD1.5 billion annually.

1. Commercial Launch and Early Adoption

DEFSEC has commercially released LightningTM, a turnkey cloud-hosted situational awareness platform built on the proven Team Awareness Kit, designed for rapid deployment without dedicated hardware or IT management. The first subscription customer, an Ontario border police agency, has completed onboarding under a scaled pricing model.

2. Core Capabilities and Dual-Use Applications

LightningTM offers continuous Blue Force Tracking, secure encrypted text, voice, photo and video sharing, and interoperable data fusion from drones, body cameras and fixed sensors. Specialized toolkits include GSAR for ground search and rescue and T-SAS for live sniper and surveillance video distribution, with geofenced incident call-out and low-bandwidth support for Arctic defence missions.

3. Subscription Pricing and Market Potential

Subscription fees range from CAD15 to CAD50 per end-user device per month based on configuration and service level. DEFSEC estimates a North American addressable market of approximately 779,000 police officers (CAD140–467 million annual revenue) and over 2.5 million first responders (CAD450 million–1.5 billion), with further defence sector opportunities.
