Delta to Install Amazon’s Leo Wi-Fi on 500 Planes Starting 2028
Delta Air Lines will equip 500 aircraft with Amazon’s Leo in-flight Wi-Fi from 2028, replacing current Viasat and Hughes systems on continental US routes. Amazon has launched 214 satellites since April 2025 and plans over 20 additional launches in the next 12 months to scale its network.
1. Delta-Amazon Partnership
Delta will install Leo terminals on 500 aircraft starting in 2028 for continental US flights, marking its second major in-flight Wi-Fi deal after JetBlue and directly challenging SpaceX's Starlink presence in the aviation market.
2. Amazon Satellite Network Expansion
Amazon has invested at least $10 billion in its Leo satellite network, launching 214 satellites since April 2025 and contracting over 100 launches, with more than 20 planned over the next 12 months to scale commercial service.
3. Delta’s In-Flight Wi-Fi Strategy
Delta currently offers Wi-Fi via Viasat and Hughes across its roughly 1,200-plane fleet, serving 163 million SkyMiles members, and selected Leo due to its existing Amazon Web Services partnership and promise of reduced disruptions.
