Diageo Sponsors Alexis Ortega’s Win as 2026 U.S. Bartender of the Year
Diageo’s first partnership with the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation crowned Alexis Ortega as 2026 U.S. Bartender of the Year after three days of challenges testing Ketel One Vodka, Mr Black Coffee Liqueur and Tanqueray No. TEN. He will compete for the global title this fall in Scotland.
1. Inaugural Partnership and National Competition
Diageo launched its first partnership with the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation by hosting the U.S. World Class Finals in Chicago from May 11 to 13, where 15 top bartenders competed across three challenges. Contestants crafted heritage-inspired Ketel One Vodka cocktails, developed coffee-based creations with Mr Black Coffee Liqueur, and demonstrated speed and technical skill in an eight-minute Speed Round.
2. Alexis Ortega’s Winning Performance
Alexis Ortega of Philadelphia emerged as champion by excelling in all five rounds, blending creativity, composure and hospitality. He impressed judges with signature cocktails featuring Tequila Don Julio Blanco and Tanqueray No. TEN, securing his title and marking a milestone in Diageo’s brand-driven bartender excellence program.
3. Road to World Class Global Finals
Ortega will represent the United States at the 2026 World Class Global Finals in Scotland this fall, competing against winners from over 50 countries. This global stage will showcase Diageo’s portfolio brands internationally and reinforce the company’s commitment to education, mentorship and community in hospitality.
