Digital Realty’s Ascenty Set to Benefit from 2.8GW Brazil Capacity Expansion and 11 Mexican Data Centers
ResearchAndMarkets forecasts 34 upcoming Brazilian projects will add over 2.8GW of IT capacity and double colocation space to 10.75 million sq ft by 2029, positioning Digital Realty’s Ascenty among top operators. In Mexico, 11 planned centers join 46 existing facilities in Querétaro and Bajío, reinforcing Ascenty’s regional footprint.
1. Mexico Expansion Solidifies Digital Realty’s Regional Footprint
Digital Realty’s Ascenty division has strengthened its position in Mexico’s burgeoning colocation market, with the company ranking second among operators in both existing and upcoming capacity. As of 2025, Mexico hosts 46 live facilities and 11 projects under development, and Ascenty accounts for roughly 22% of current IT load capacity across key hubs in Mexico City and Querétaro. The company has secured over 120,000 square feet of white-floor space in the Bajío region, where four new data halls are slated to add 80 megawatts of power capacity by 2027. This expansion follows Ascenty’s recent acquisition of two edge-focused facilities in Monterrey and Puebla, boosting its total rack capacity by 1,800 cabinets and reinforcing its network of low-latency interconnection points.
2. Brazil Growth Plan Puts Digital Realty at the Forefront
In Brazil’s high-growth colocation market, Ascenty is one of four dominant players driving what is projected to be a 2.8-gigawatt increase in IT load capacity through 2029. The company currently operates five hyperscale campuses in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, delivering 150 megawatts of commissioned capacity and 2.1 million square feet of white-floor space. Ascenty has announced three greenfield projects totaling 350,000 square feet and 45 megawatts of power capacity, slated to come online between 2026 and 2028. These developments form part of Digital Realty’s $350 million investment program in Brazil, targeting an annual growth rate of 30% in colocation revenues and further entrenching its market leadership alongside Scala Data Centers, Equinix and ODATA.
