Ellison retains Thompson as CNN chief, unveils Skydance leadership team
PSKY•Mark Thompson will remain CNN’s chairman and editor-in-chief under Skydance, while CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss will stay in her role. Paramount also named leaders for the combined company formed by its $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.
1. CNN leadership retained
CNN chief executive Mark Thompson will remain the network’s chairman and editor-in-chief under Skydance. In a memo to staff, he said he would lead CNN as an independent editor-in-chief “with the same responsibilities and prerogatives that I have now.”
2. Combined company roles
Paramount announced the leadership team for the new company, including CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who will remain in her role. Thompson and Weiss will report directly to chairman and CEO David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz. Paramount operating chief Andy Gordon will be president, and finance chief Dennis Cinelli will keep his role. HBO head Casey Bloys will become chief content officer at Skydance’s direct-to-consumer business.
