Fervo Energy Drills 19,448-Foot Well in 21 Days, Boosts Rates 143%
FRVO•Fervo drilled its ninth Phase II well, Sawtooth 7, to 19,448-foot depth with a 7,500-foot lateral in 21 days, setting a company record and boosting drilling rates by 143% versus its first Cape Station well. The pace supports its $5,500/kW cost target for Phase II and $3,000/kW goal.
1. Record Drilling Pace Achieved
Sawtooth 7, the ninth well using Fervo’s 3.0 design at Cape Station Phase II, was drilled to a measured depth of 19,448 feet with a 7,500-foot lateral in just 21 days. This pace sets a new company record and represents a 143% increase in drilling rates compared to Fervo’s first Cape Station well.
2. Evolution of Well Designs
Fervo’s learning curve spans three well designs: the 1.0 design at Project Red reached 11,220 feet in 70 days, the 2.0 design at Cape Station Phase I drilled 14,483 feet in 21 days, and the 3.0 design now achieves deeper, hotter wells with longer laterals in the same timeframe.
3. Cost Reduction and Future Outlook
Management expects the enhanced drilling pace to drive GeoBlocks™ economics, targeting $5,500 per kilowatt for Cape Phase II and eventually $3,000 per kilowatt. Phase II’s 400 MW development remains on track to deliver power in 2028, leveraging deeper, higher-temperature wells to boost output per well.
