Ford to make full factory return to WRC in 2028
F•Ford will return to the World Rally Championship as a full factory team with long-standing partner M-Sport from 2028. It is the first full works programme for Ford in the WRC since 2012.
1. Factory team return
Ford announced it will return to the World Rally Championship as a full factory team from 2028 with long-standing partner M-Sport. The U.S. automaker will be the fourth constructor to commit to building a Rally1 car for 2029 under the FIA’s WRC27 regulations, which aim to reduce the cost of competing at the top level.
2. Ford’s rally history
Ford cars have won 94 WRC rallies, and the previous works team won three manufacturer titles. M-Sport currently competes with Ford Puma cars and has received technical support from Ford since 2012; before that, it ran Ford’s works team.
3. Other motorsport plans
Ford is involved in Formula One with Red Bull, is set to compete in the World Endurance Championship from 2027, and participates in the World Rally-Raid Championship, which includes the annual Dakar Rally. Ford said in May it would launch seven new models in Europe by 2029.
