Ford’s $30,000 Midsize Electric Pickup Prototypes Testing On Michigan Roads
F•Ford plans a midsize four-door electric pickup on its Universal Electric Vehicle platform, priced at $30,000 and set to launch in 2027, with prototypes currently undergoing road tests in Michigan. The company is using megacasting and expanded supplier readiness assessments to drive cost efficiencies and production scale.
1. UEV Platform and Pickup Overview
In August 2025 Ford unveiled the Universal Electric Vehicle platform that underpins a midsize four-door electric pickup starting at $30,000 and slated for 2027 launch. The platform will also support future EVs including a small SUV and potential sedan, enabling economies of scale and competitive cost structures.
2. Prototype Testing and Megacasting Process
Prototypes of the $30,000 pickup are currently being built in Michigan and tested on roads while the company trials megacasting technology to produce large single-piece aluminum frame sections, a process expected to reduce manufacturing costs significantly.
3. Supplier Readiness and Production Timeline
Ford is conducting supplier readiness assessments and expanding its supplier base to secure high-quality parts ahead of Louisville Assembly Plant production in 2027, aiming to leverage in-house design control for cost management and maintain quality standards.
