Freddie Mac: US 30-year fixed mortgage rate averages 7.03% in latest survey
TLT•Freddie Mac’s survey showed the 30-year fixed mortgage rate averaging 7.03% as of Sept. 24, 2026, up from 6.95% the prior week and 6.30% a year earlier.
1. Mortgage rates rise
The 15-year fixed mortgage rate averaged 6.42%, up from 6.26% the prior week and 5.49% a year earlier. The survey covers conventional, conforming, fully amortizing purchase loans with 20% down payments for borrowers with excellent credit.
