Gap Inc. Hits 100% Sustainable Cotton, 65% Recycled Polyester in 2025
GAP•Gap Inc. reached its 2025 target of sourcing 100% sustainable cotton and 65% recycled polyester, surpassing its 45% recycled polyester goal. The company cut Scopes 1&2 emissions by 70%, achieved 46% renewable electricity and plans to double traceable U.S. cotton sourcing in 2026.
1. Sustainable Fiber Milestones
Gap Inc. achieved its 2025 goals by sourcing 100% of its cotton from Better Cotton Initiative, recycled, organic or regeneratively grown fibers and by sourcing 65% of its polyester from recycled materials, exceeding its 45% target.
2. Emissions and Renewable Energy Progress
Since 2017, the company has reduced Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 70% and Scope 3.1 emissions from purchased goods and services by 20%, while powering 46% of its operations with renewable electricity.
3. Water Stewardship and Washwell Expansion
In 2025, 39% of freshwater withdrawals were replenished to nature, 28% of garments met Washwell standards for recycled water use, and over 300 Tier 1 and Tier 2 facilities joined the Water Quality Program, with 400 facilities trained in chemicals management.
4. 2026 U.S. Cotton Plan and Get Blue Campaign
Gap Inc. aims to double its traceable U.S. cotton sourcing next year and has launched the Get Blue campaign—partnering with retailers to sell exclusive apparel and donate $5 per purchase to Water.org’s Common Ground Project.
