GE Aerospace Partners with Wolfspeed on 10 kV SiC Modules as Military Deliveries Begin 2027
GE•GE Aerospace signed an MoU with Wolfspeed to develop 10 kV silicon carbide transistor modules for industrial, aerospace and defense power systems, building on high-voltage units qualified for U.S. military ground vehicles with deliveries starting 2027. CEO Larry Culp expects to secure more aircraft-engine orders from China after the Trump-Xi meeting.
1. Wolfspeed Collaboration on Silicon Carbide Modules
GE Aerospace signed a memorandum of understanding with Wolfspeed to co-develop high-voltage power modules using Wolfspeed’s 10-kilovolt silicon carbide MOSFET technology. The joint effort targets more compact, efficient power solutions for solid-state transformers, industrial electrification and advanced aerospace and defense platforms.
2. Military Ground Vehicle Power Units
This collaboration builds on GE Aerospace’s recent qualification of high-voltage power units for U.S. military ground vehicles. Low-rate production is slated to begin later this year, with deliveries to the U.S. Army starting in 2027.
3. Outlook for China Engine Orders
CEO Larry Culp expressed confidence in securing additional aircraft-engine orders from China following the Trump-Xi summit in Beijing. He highlighted the potential for expanding GE Aerospace’s footprint in its largest commercial market.
