GE Aerospace says CFM RISE engine core components exceed 10,000 durability cycles
GE•GE Aerospace said CFM's RISE technology program has completed more than 500 tests, with engine core components accumulating over 10,000 durability cycles. The Open Fan architecture targets 20% better fuel efficiency than current commercial engines.
1. RISE testing progress
GE Aerospace said its CFM International joint venture is developing an Open Fan architecture targeting 20% better fuel efficiency than current commercial engines. The RISE technology demonstration program has completed more than 500 tests, and engine core components have accumulated over 10,000 durability cycles. Testing includes endurance and dust ingestion trials.
2. Other engine updates
CFM is upgrading LEAP engines with a high-pressure turbine durability kit designed to extend time on wing and improve aircraft availability. GE Aerospace said the GEnx engine, selected to power the new Survivable Airborne Operations Center, delivers 1.4% better specific fuel consumption than competing engines.
