General Fusion, Renexia Launch Milestone Plan for Italian Fusion Plant by 2026
SVAC•General Fusion and Renexia established a milestone-based framework for commercial deployment of Magnetized Target Fusion power plants in Italy, covering site evaluation, development, funding, construction and commissioning. Site feasibility work begins immediately with phase one operations expected to start in 2026 subject to definitive terms.
1. Framework Agreement Overview
General Fusion and Renexia have agreed on a milestone-based framework for the commercial deployment of Magnetized Target Fusion power plants in Italy. The collaboration covers site evaluation, development, funding, construction and commissioning of one or more plants designed to support Italy’s decarbonization goals.
2. Collaboration Phases and Timeline
The framework outlines multiple phases, beginning with immediate site feasibility work and progressing through offtake negotiations, permitting and construction. Phase one activities are expected to commence in 2026 upon finalization of definitive terms and milestone-based agreements.
3. Implications for SPAC Merger
Upon closing of the Proposed Business Combination, Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III will be renamed General Fusion Group Ltd. and its shares and warrants will trade on Nasdaq as GFUZ and GFUZW. Shareholder approval is scheduled for a July 6, 2026 meeting, with closing expected shortly thereafter subject to customary conditions.
4. Magnetized Target Fusion Technology
Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) mechanically compresses plasma with a lithium liner to achieve fusion without superconducting magnets or high-powered lasers. The LM26 demonstration machine has reached 50% of commercial-scale diameter and aims for plasma temperatures up to 100 million degrees Celsius to meet the Lawson criterion for net energy output.
