President Trump unveiled a ratepayer protection pledge requiring signatories—including Google, Microsoft, Oracle, OpenAI, Amazon and xAI—to fully fund any new power generation and grid upgrades needed to support expanding AI data center energy needs without passing costs to consumers.

Energy demand linked to AI data centers is projected to more than triple by 2035, representing over a 200% increase. The rapid growth stems from soaring computational requirements for large language models, machine learning tasks and other AI services.

Google’s commitment to underwrite power infrastructure may boost its capital expenditures and alter energy procurement strategies. While this secures stable consumer rates, the upfront investment could affect the company’s operating margins and long-term cost forecasts.
