Openreach has broadened its agreement with Google Cloud to deploy AI-driven data tools across its operations. Google Cloud's machine learning models analyze route efficiency, vehicle idling, and network planning data to streamline full-fibre construction schedules.

The AI system processes 200 million miles of annual fleet data from 24,000 vans, enabling planners to identify optimal fibre-lay routes and detect fault patterns. Mapping of 35 million homes and national transport corridors further accelerates site selection and resource allocation.

Early deployment has eliminated unnecessary travel and reduced fuel consumption, facilitating a faster transition to electric vehicles. The collaboration has prevented about 10,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions annually, contributing to environmental targets.
