Google DeepMind Launches AI Campus in South Korea Under K-Moonshot Partnership

Google DeepMind has signed a memorandum with South Korea’s Science and ICT Ministry to support the K-Moonshot initiative, exchanging AI models, tools and scientific datasets across life sciences, meteorology and climate research. The deal includes a new AI-focused campus in South Korea, internship opportunities and joint AI safety development.

1. Partnership Overview

Google DeepMind signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s Science and ICT Ministry to join the K-Moonshot initiative, focusing on applying AI to complex scientific problems. The agreement was formalized in Seoul by DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-Hoon.

2. AI Campus and Internships

As part of the deal, Google will establish an AI-focused campus in South Korea to collaborate with universities and startups, while offering internship placements at DeepMind for Korean researchers.

3. Research Disciplines and AI Safety

The collaboration covers life sciences, meteorology and climate research through exchange of AI models, tools and datasets, with joint development of AI safety measures in cooperation with Korea’s AI Safety Institute.
