At the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, UC Berkeley professor Stuart Russell cautioned that competition-driven development of super-intelligent systems could replace millions of customer service and tech support jobs and even threaten human survival. He criticized governments for allowing private entities to “play Russian roulette with every human being” by pursuing unchecked AI capabilities.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai described the company’s AI investments as strategic, comparing the current AI revolution to an industrial revolution that is ten times faster and larger. He highlighted the integration of advanced AI models across Google Search, YouTube recommendation algorithms, Cloud services, Waymo autonomous driving and Isomorphic Labs drug discovery.

3. DeepMind’s AGI Timeline Prediction

DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis warned that artificial general intelligence could reshape society more profoundly than fire or electricity, predicting it may arrive within the next five years. He named 2026 a pivotal year for AI research, forecasting AGI’s impact could exceed the Industrial Revolution by an order of magnitude.
