Honeywell to help build Dangote's new Kenyan mega-refinery
HON•Honeywell will provide engineering services, licensing and equipment for a planned 700,000-barrels-per-day refinery in Kenya. The $16 billion project is in Lamu county.
1. Honeywell’s project role
Honeywell said it was selected to provide engineering services, licensing and equipment for the planned refinery, where Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote and Kenyan President William Ruto broke ground. Honeywell President Rajesh Gattupalli said the companies’ engineering designs could be applied to the project to reduce time to market.
2. Refinery plans
The refinery is planned to produce 700,000 barrels per day of diesel, petrol and jet fuel for Kenya, with products also intended for export across the region. Honeywell has also worked with Dangote on upgrades to his Nigerian refinery, which are intended to double its capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day. Conservationists and affected landowners are challenging construction of the Kenyan project in court.
