1. Humana Stock Plummets After 2027 Medicare Rate Proposal
Humana shares fell 13.49% in premarket trading on the Trump administration’s announcement that Medicare Advantage payment rates for 2027 will increase by just 0.09% on average, far below Wall Street’s 4–6% expectation. The proposal also triggered steep declines across the health insurance sector, with UnitedHealth Group down more than 8% and CVS Health off by 7% in early trading. Analysts at Fierce Health Finance noted that Humana derives approximately 45% of its revenue from Medicare Advantage, heightening investor concern over margin pressure if final rates remain constrained.
2. Humana Commits $3 Million to Xavier Ochsner Scholarship Fund
Humana has launched a $3 million scholarship fund to expand the physician workforce at Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine in Louisiana. The fund will provide full-tuition awards to 25 students annually over a three-year period, covering tuition, fees and living stipends. Humana’s investment supports its broader strategy to address provider shortages in underserved markets, where the company operates more than 120 primary care clinics through its CenterWell subsidiary. The program is expected to increase the local physician supply by 75 doctors by 2028.
3. Humana and Carda Health Partner on Virtual Cardiac Rehabilitation
Humana has entered into a nationwide partnership with Carda Health to deliver at-home cardiac rehabilitation to its members recovering from heart conditions. Under the agreement, Carda will provide live, monitored exercise sessions, nutrition counseling and medication follow-ups through a proprietary digital platform. Carda’s team of physicians, nurse practitioners and clinical exercise physiologists will manage individualized care plans, aiming to reduce 30-day hospital readmission rates by up to 40%. The initiative will roll out to Humana’s Medicare Advantage population in 15 states starting in Q2 2026.
