IDEXX Adds Taeniid Tapeworm Detection to Fecal Dx Antigen Platform with No Extra Cost
IDXX•IDEXX has added detection of Taenia and Echinococcus taeniid tapeworm species to its Fecal Dx antigen testing platform, expanding clinical scope to seven parasite groups. Starting late June, U.S. and Canadian reference lab customers will automatically receive the enhanced panels at no additional cost.
1. Product Enhancement and Scope
IDEXX has expanded its Fecal Dx antigen testing platform to include Taenia and Echinococcus taeniid tapeworm species, proven to detect up to twice as many intestinal parasite infections earlier than fecal flotation alone. The platform now covers seven clinically relevant parasite groups: hookworm, roundworm, whipworm, flea tapeworm, taeniid tapeworm, Cystoisospora and Giardia in select panels.
2. Adoption Milestones
Since its 2012 launch, the Fecal Dx antigen test has run over 50 million tests globally, reflecting strong clinical adoption and platform scalability. With each menu expansion, the test has grown in practice value and diagnostic breadth, supporting both wellness screening and sick-pet care.
3. Market Availability
Beginning in late June, IDEXX Reference Laboratories customers in the U.S. and Canada will automatically receive the updated antigen testing panels, including taeniid tapeworm detection, at no additional cost. This enhancement aims to help veterinary teams institute earlier treatment, protect pet health and reduce zoonotic risk for owners.
