CART•Instacart and Weis Markets have deployed AI-driven Caper Carts at select Pennsylvania stores, offering real-time spend tracking, personalized coupons and on-cart loyalty redemption. Instacart has tripled Caper Cart deployments year-over-year and plans broader rollouts, targeting increased in-store sales, reduced out-of-stocks and new retail media revenue.
1. Partnership Launch
Instacart and Weis Markets have introduced AI-powered Caper Carts at select Weis locations in Pennsylvania, marking the first in-store deployment of Instacart’s Connected Stores technology. The pilot is the latest phase in a relationship that began when Weis joined the Instacart Marketplace in 2023, with more locations slated for rollout throughout the year.
2. Caper Cart Technology
Each Caper Cart is equipped with basket-facing cameras, certified scales, location tracking and an interactive touchscreen that provides shoppers with real-time spend tracking, location-based digital coupons and on-cart loyalty account sign-up and redemption. Enhanced features like Buy It Again surface past purchases to streamline basket building and on-cart prompts have driven a near one percentage point average lift in basket size.
3. Deployment Growth and Business Impact
Instacart has tripled the number of Caper Carts deployed year-over-year, now spanning over 100 cities across 15 states with major banners like Kroger and ShopRite. Retailers benefit from increased sales, reduced out-of-stocks and new retail media revenue, while shoppers gain personalized savings and a frictionless in-store experience.
