International Motors Launches Factory Samsara Telematics Installs as Truck Sales Drop 40%
International Motors now offers factory installation of Samsara’s Vehicle Gateway and dashcams on Class 8 trucks at Escobedo, San Antonio and Tulsa plants. Samsara’s predelivery program cuts fleet downtime and costs through installs, while International saw truck sales fall 40% and posted a second straight quarterly loss in Q4 2025.
1. Factory Installation Program
International Motors has integrated Samsara’s Vehicle Gateway, dashcams and camera systems into its assembly process, enabling pre-delivery installation on new Class 8 trucks and IC Bus school buses. Installations occur at the company’s Escobedo, Mexico; San Antonio, Texas; and Tulsa, Oklahoma plants, ensuring vehicles ship fully equipped and activated.
2. Operational Benefits
By embedding telematics devices at the factory, fleets can eliminate separate upfitting steps, reducing downtime and installation labor. Scaled procurement of hardware also drives lower per-unit costs and faster delivery of connected, out-of-the-box vehicles.
3. Competitive Landscape
International is the third Class 8 OEM to offer factory telematics installs after Freightliner and Western Star, shifting customers away from third-party upfitters. This move aims to standardize predelivery connectivity and challenge rivals still relying on post-delivery modifications.
4. Financial Context
The new installation option arrives as International reported a 40% year-over-year decline in truck sales and its second straight quarterly loss in Q4 2025. The company is also selling its Springfield, Ohio assembly plant as it seeks to stabilize operations and reduce costs.
