1. Kroger Unveils Exclusive Game Day Offerings
Kroger this week rolled out a suite of limited-edition game day products designed to drive incremental traffic and basket size ahead of the country’s largest televised sporting event. Leading the lineup are Flamin’ Hot® Boneless Chicken Wings, the first time the iconic snack flavor has been applied to a premium white-meat wing, expected to boost frozen wing sales by 15% over the promotional period. Complementing the wings is the private-label Champion Chip Collection, featuring three new flavors—Pigs in a Blanket, Mozzarella Sticks and Buffalo Wings—projected to account for up to 20% of weekly chip unit volume in Q1. Kroger is layering these launches with targeted buy-one-get-one offers, weekly digital coupons and multiplay promotions on complementary items such as avocados, salsa and tortillas, aiming to lift trip frequency by 8% and increase average transaction value by $5 during February.
2. Institutional Investors Increase Kroger Stakes
Recent regulatory filings show Mirae Asset Global Investments raised its position in Kroger by 8.8%, adding 10,570 shares in the third quarter for a total holding valued at $8.76 million. Earlier filings reveal the National Pension Service expanded its stake by 6.8%, acquiring nearly 92,000 shares for approximately $97 million. These two funds now collectively own over 0.3% of Kroger’s outstanding shares. The upward revisions underscore growing confidence in Kroger’s earnings outlook, driven by management’s mid-single-digit EPS guidance for FY 2025 and stable same-store sales trends in the fresh and center-store divisions.
