With futures under pressure, traders are closely watching a key support zone.
The Composite’s 50- and 100-day moving averages ended Friday tightly packed between roughly 25,960 and 26,050. Just below that zone sits the August 24 low at 25,910.82, while the uptrend line from the March low comes in near 25,885.
For bulls, defending that support area will be crucial. A rebound followed by a move above resistance near 26,750, where the trendline from the early June record high sits, would be an encouraging sign. A break above the August 13 high at 26,875.52 would further strengthen the bullish case and suggest potential for a thrust above the .
27,190.21 June 1 record intraday peak
On the other hand, a decisive break below the March trendline would raise the risk of a much deeper pullback. In that scenario, traders may target the June 9 low at 24,980.38 as the next major downside level. Beyond that, attention would shift to the rising 200-day moving average near 24,475, which sits close to the July 29 low of 24,425.34.
Nasdaq Composite approaches a key support zone
From a technical perspective, the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC, which ended Friday at 26,333.03, has spent the past month trapped in a choppy sideways consolidation.
That consolidation has steadily compressed volatility. Daily Bollinger Bandwidth, a measure of historical volatility, fell to its lowest level in six months on Friday. Such low readings often precede a larger move, suggesting the index may be nearing a breakout from its recent range and, potentially, the start of its next major trend.
Nasdaq futures lead losses ahead of the Fed decision
US equity index futures were red, with Nasdaq 100 futures down more than 1.5% and AI-related stocks weighing on sentiment after several prominent U.S. executives called for a slowdown in AI development because of safety concerns.
The cautious mood comes ahead of a key event for markets this week: Wednesday's FOMC decision. Fed funds futures imply a near 90% probability of a 25-basis-point rate hike, giving traders another reason to stay on the sidelines before making large directional bets.
Volatility compressed ahead of a possible inflection point
In short, volatility has been compressed for weeks, and with futures already on the defensive ahead of the Fed decision, the Nasdaq may be approaching an inflection point where a more decisive move in either direction emerges.
