Lockheed Martin Signs GM Defense MOU, Wins $223.9M Navy Sonar Deal
LMT•Lockheed Martin signed an MOU with GM Defense to explore accelerating defense production, supply chain resilience and expanding manufacturing capacity through commercial high-rate processes. Separately, it secured a $223.9 million U.S. Navy contract to enhance undersea surveillance sonar capabilities.
1. Collaboration with GM Defense
Under a new memorandum of understanding, Lockheed Martin and GM Defense will evaluate ways to strengthen defense supply chains, advance manufacturing and design capabilities, and expand production capacity by applying GM’s high-rate commercial manufacturing expertise to defense production requirements.
2. $223.9M U.S. Navy Sonar Contract
Lockheed Martin secured a $223.9 million contract to deliver advanced undersea surveillance sonar systems, marking an expansion of its sonar portfolio and reinforcing its role in meeting the Navy’s requirements for next-generation maritime defense technology.
3. Talks on Weapon Components Manufacturing
GM and Lockheed Martin are in negotiations for GM Defense to manufacture weapon components and parts, a move driven by Pentagon efforts to boost domestic production capacity and leverage automotive engineering capabilities for military supply needs.
