Meta Reserves 1 GW Storage for AI Data Centers and Tests WhatsApp Premium
Meta reserved 1 GW/100 GWh of ultra-long duration storage from Noon Energy, starting with a 25 MW/2.5 GWh project by 2028 to power AI data centers. It is piloting WhatsApp Premium with custom themes and chat tools to diversify monetization beyond its $2 billion-a-year Business API revenue.
1. Ultra-Long Duration Energy Storage Agreement
Meta has secured a reservation of up to 1 GW/100 GWh of energy storage capacity from Noon Energy, commencing with a 25 MW/2.5 GWh modular reversible solid oxide fuel cell system scheduled for completion by 2028. This project will deliver 100-hour-plus storage capacity to ensure 24/7 baseload power for its next-generation AI data centers and represents the initial phase of a broader multi-phase rollout.
2. WhatsApp Premium Pilot Program
Meta is testing a new WhatsApp Premium subscription with a small user group, offering personalized themes, ringtones, icons and advanced chat tools. The trial is part of a broader effort to diversify revenue streams beyond the $2 billion-a-year WhatsApp Business API by introducing optional paid features to its consumer messaging platform.
