Micron Taps Bechtel for $100 Billion New York Semiconductor Megafab, Targets 50,000 Jobs
MU•Micron appointed Bechtel as EPC partner for phase one of its US$100 billion Clay, New York semiconductor complex, expected to generate $16.7 billion in annual economic output and qualify for CHIPS Act and state incentives. The site, set to create 50,000 jobs, represents the largest private investment in New York history.
1. Partnership with Bechtel
Micron selected Bechtel as engineering, procurement and construction partner for phase one of its planned $100 billion semiconductor complex in Clay, New York. Bechtel will mobilize immediately and scale its workforce to support advanced construction stages following initial site work that began in January 2026.
2. Economic and Employment Impact
The megafab, planned as the largest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the US, is projected to generate $16.7 billion in annual economic output and $5.4 billion in personal income over 30 years. Once operational, it is expected to create 50,000 jobs across New York, including over 4,500 construction roles at peak build-out.
3. Incentives and Future Expansion
Micron's project secures up to $6.4 billion in CHIPS Act funding and $5.5 billion in New York state GREEN CHIPS incentives. The company also plans up to four additional fabrication plants in the state over the next two decades, leveraging the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit for these investments.
