Northrop Grumman unveils FORTITUDE GaN chip, citing 20x signal quality gain
NOC•Northrop Grumman introduced FORTITUDE, a grain-of-rice-sized gallium nitride chip, and cited 3x more power and 20x better signal quality, along with reduced weight and lower power use for end systems.
1. Chip targets broad applications
Northrop Grumman said FORTITUDE processes broad electromagnetic-spectrum data on one device and aims to simplify communications-heavy systems by replacing dozens of components. The company said the chip could be used in U.S.-built commercial and defense applications including satellites, radar and GPS.
