NRS April Same-Store Sales Rise 3.9%, $2.2B Processed
April same-store sales in NRS’ network rose 3.9% year-over-year, up from 2.9% in March, driven by higher dollar sales per basket despite a 0.3% drop in transactions. NRS terminals processed $2.2 billion across 145 million transactions (+13% yoy) while average price of top 500 items gained 2.2%.
1. Same-Store Sales Growth
Same-store sales for April rose 3.9% year-over-year on a per-calendar-day basis, accelerating from March’s 2.9% growth and marking a 1.7% sequential increase versus the prior month. For the three months ended April, same-store sales were up 3.2% compared to the year-ago period.
2. Pricing and Transaction Metrics
Units sold increased 0.5% year-over-year after a 1.2% decline in March, while baskets per store fell 0.3%. The dollar-weighted average price of the top 500 items climbed 2.2% year-over-year, up from a 1.4% rise in March, reflecting ongoing inflation in key categories.
3. Category and Regional Performance
Prepared cocktails and espresso led category gains, with coconut water, sparkling water and smokeless tobacco posting double-digit increases. Regionally, Raleigh–Durham achieved double-digit year-over-year sales growth, whereas Los Angeles, Washington DC and Miami/Ft. Lauderdale saw slight declines.
4. Network Scale and Transaction Volume
As of April 30, the NRS network included approximately 39,300 active terminals at 34,100 independent retailers. In April, those terminals processed $2.2 billion in sales across 145 million transactions, representing a 13% year-over-year increase in dollar volume.
