Nvidia Drive AGX Thor Powers Lucid Gravity Driverless Tests with 35,000 Uber SUVs
Nuro secured a modified California DMV driverless testing permit for Lucid Gravity SUVs, enabling full driverless trials later this year. The SUVs, equipped with Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor, support Uber’s expanded $500M commitment for at least 35,000 robotaxi-ready vehicles.
1. Modified Driverless Permit Granted
The California Department of Motor Vehicles approved an update to Nuro’s six-year-old driverless permit, extending it from low-speed delivery vehicles to Lucid Gravity SUVs. This modification allows Nuro to test the Lucid vehicles on public roads without a human safety operator behind the wheel, marking a major step toward full autonomy.
2. Uber-Lucid-Nuro Partnership Expansion
Uber has increased its commitment from $300M to $500M and expanded its robotaxi order to a minimum of 35,000 vehicles, including at least 10,000 Gravity SUVs. The vehicles, outfitted with advanced sensors and computing, will leverage Nuro’s autonomous technology to support Uber’s premium robotaxi service.
3. Nvidia Drive AGX Thor Integration
Each Lucid Gravity robotaxi will run on Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor platform, utilizing high-resolution cameras, lidar sensors, and radar modules. This partnership highlights Nvidia’s strategic push into automotive AI compute, potentially opening a significant new revenue stream as autonomous ride-hailing scales.
