Petrobras' board has given final investment decision approval for a $1.2bn biofuels facility at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery in Cubatão, signaling a major commitment to renewable fuel production as part of its strategic portfolio.
The new plant is designed to produce up to 15,000 barrels per day of renewable fuels, including bio-jet fuel and renewable diesel, enhancing the company's product mix and supporting aviation decarbonization efforts.
Petrobras will enter the final contracting phase immediately, with construction expected to start by the end of 2026 and operations to commence in 2030, pending financing and contractual milestones.
This facility is included in Petrobras' 2026–30 Business Plan and its Base Implementation Portfolio, aligning with Brazil’s Future Fuel Law and international aviation decarbonization schemes to support a just energy transition.
