Petrobras Awards $150M Four-Year Skandi Commander Contract, Union Suspends Strike

PBRPBR

Petrobras awarded DOF Group a $150 million four-year contract for the Skandi Commander vessel to deploy advanced ROV and AUV technology from 2027. Brazilian union Sindipetro-NF accepted the state-run oil company's counteroffer, suspended its strike launched earlier this month.

1. Petrobras Awards $150M Contract to DOF Group

Petrobras has signed a four-year Remote Support Vessel (RSV) contract valued at $150 million with Norwegian firm DOF Group for the Skandi Commander, with work scheduled to commence in January 2027. The agreement covers delivery of advanced remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) services across Brazil’s pre-salt fields in the Santos Basin. The Skandi Commander will support pipeline inspections, subsea construction and maintenance operations, and deepwater surveys at water depths exceeding 2,000 meters. The contract represents a strategic move by Petrobras to modernize its offshore fleet, reduce downtime and enhance subsea asset integrity, which could improve long-term production stability and lower operating costs by an estimated 12% over the term of the agreement.

2. Brazilian Union Accepts Petrobras Counteroffer, Suspends Strike

Sindipetro-NF, one of the largest labor unions representing Petrobras offshore personnel, has agreed to a counteroffer from the company that includes an 8% base salary increase, a one-time signing bonus equivalent to 5% of annual pay and the establishment of a joint health and safety committee. In exchange, the union has suspended its strike, which began on May 5, 2026 and had halted production at several Campos Basin platforms affecting an estimated 150,000 barrels per day of crude output. With the suspension in place for the next 90 days, Petrobras expects to restore full operational capacity by mid-June and avoid further inventory build-ups at domestic terminals.
