Polestar Shifts Polestar 4 SUV Manufacturing to Busan as U.S. Bans Vehicles Next Year
PSNY•Despite generating the majority of its sales in Europe, Polestar will manufacture its Polestar 4 SUV in Busan, South Korea, marking local assembly for its best-performing model. U.S. regulators will ban Polestar vehicles starting next model year, cutting off a key growth market and threatening its global sales trajectory.
1. Polestar 4 SUV Production Shifts to Busan
Polestar will begin building its flagship Polestar 4 SUV at the Busan, South Korea facility, marking the first local assembly of its best-selling model. This move aims to streamline supply chains, improve production efficiency and reduce delivery times for its fast-growing SUV variant across Asian and European markets.
2. U.S. Regulatory Ban on Polestar Vehicles
U.S. regulators have ruled that Polestar vehicles will be banned from sale in the U.S. starting with the next model year, effectively eliminating access to what was the company’s second-largest market. The ban threatens to derail Polestar’s global delivery targets and may force a strategic pivot toward alternative regions and models.
