Qualcomm, Tata to Produce Snapdragon Automotive Modules in India by 2025
Qualcomm and Tata Group will form a joint venture in India to manufacture Snapdragon-based automotive connectivity and ADAS modules. The partnership targets commissioning a local production facility by 2025 to supply modules for electric and autonomous vehicles from domestic automakers.
1. Partnership Formation
Qualcomm and Tata Group have agreed to establish a 50:50 joint venture to locally produce automotive modules based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform. The JV will focus on connectivity and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) components tailored for Indian automakers.
2. Production Facility Plans
The partners aim to build a manufacturing plant in India by mid-2025, with phased capacity expansions to meet growing demand for electric and autonomous vehicle modules. Initial output is expected to reach several hundred thousand units annually.
3. Strategic Implications
This manufacturing tie-up enhances Qualcomm’s on-shore production footprint and strengthens Tata’s automotive technology portfolio. The venture is poised to reduce import dependence, improve supply chain resilience and support faster module integration for domestic vehicle launches.
