RedHill partner wins $2.9 million NCI grant for opaganib-CAR T trials in multiple myeloma
RDHL•The University of Oklahoma received a five-year, $2.9 million National Cancer Institute grant for planned trials testing opaganib after CAR T-cell therapy in ultra-high-risk multiple myeloma. RedHill is expected to supply opaganib.
1. Trials planned
The planned studies will test whether giving opaganib after CAR T-cell therapy can improve cancer responses. A Phase 1b trial will enroll up to 18 patients to assess safety and dosing, followed by a Phase 2 trial targeting up to 21 additional patients to evaluate efficacy.
2. Treatment approach
Previously reported preclinical findings showed longer tumor control in mice receiving the combination. RedHill is expected to supply opaganib, while CAR T cells will be manufactured on the university's campus, potentially reducing costs.
