Rocket Lab Secures $816M Satellite Contract, Eyes 47% Sales Growth to $880M

Rocket Lab flew a record 20 Electron launches in 2025 and landed an $816 million Space Development Agency contract for 18 satellites. Analysts project 2026 sales of $880 million (47% growth) and 2027 profitability at $0.08 EPS with $76 million in free cash flow.

1. Rocket Lab Launch and Contract Achievements

In 2025, Rocket Lab completed a record 21 successful Electron rocket missions, surpassing its previous annual high and solidifying its position as a leading small-satellite launch provider. In December alone, the company executed two flights carrying commercial payloads to Low Earth Orbit, bringing its total missions this year to 20 by year-end. Earlier this month, Rocket Lab secured its largest single award to date: an $816 million contract from the Space Development Agency to design, build, and deploy 18 reconnaissance satellites by 2028. This award adds to an existing backlog of $1.2 billion in launch and spacecraft service agreements, ensuring a steady cadence of missions through the next three years.

2. Financial Performance and Profitability Outlook

Analysts project that Rocket Lab will generate approximately $600 million in annual revenue for 2025, up from $450 million in 2024, driven by increased launch frequency and higher spacecraft sales. With the Neutron heavy-lift vehicle on the cusp of its maiden flight in mid-2026, revenue is forecast to climb to $880 million next year, representing a 47% increase year-over-year. By 2027, total sales are expected to exceed $1.2 billion, enabling the company to report its first annual profit of $0.08 per share and deliver roughly $76 million in positive free cash flow. These milestones would allow Rocket Lab to self-fund operations without dilutive equity offerings.

3. Neutron Rocket and Growth Catalysts

Scheduled for its inaugural launch in the second half of 2026, Rocket Lab’s Neutron rocket is designed to lift up to 13,000 kilograms to Low Earth Orbit and be fully reusable, targeting a substantial share of the medium-payload market. Pre-orders for Neutron missions have already reached 15 vehicles, valued at over $1.5 billion in total contract backlog. Simultaneously, expansion of the company’s Electron launch manifest—with over 35 missions tentatively booked through 2027—alongside a growing satellite manufacturing division, positions Rocket Lab to capitalize on rising global demand for constellations supporting communications, Earth observation, and national defense applications.
