SeaWorld Rescue Teams Surpass 43,000 Animal Milestone Across Three U.S. Centers
SeaWorld rescue teams have surpassed 43,000 saved animals, including 21 manatees, a dolphin and nearly 40 turtles and reptiles in Florida, and over 40 pinnipeds plus 150 birds in San Diego year-to-date. SeaWorld Orlando operates a five-acre manatee care center with capacity for 60 animals, the largest in the U.S.
1. Milestone Achievement
SeaWorld rescue teams have now exceeded 43,000 animal rescues, marking a major conservation milestone. In early 2026, Florida teams treated 21 manatees, a baby dolphin and nearly 40 turtles and reptiles, while San Diego crews saved more than 40 pinnipeds and nearly 150 birds.
2. Regional Rescue Operations
Rescue units in Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio operate 24/7, 365 days a year. Each center specializes in regional wildlife needs, handling everything from marine mammals and sea turtles to diverse bird species.
3. Rehabilitation Success Stories
Notable cases include Melby, a manatee rescued from a storm drain that gained over 100 pounds before release on April 7, and a one-year-old sea lion pup in Carlsbad receiving hydration, formula feeding and socialization with peers.
4. Conservation Funding and Strategy
A portion of ticket sales and in-park purchases funds rescue and rehabilitation efforts. This model reinforces SeaWorld’s position as one of the world’s largest marine animal rescue organizations and supports its long-term conservation branding.
