1. Sony Honda Mobility Begins AFEELA 1 Trial Production and Opens Quality Gate Facility
Sony Honda Mobility Inc. has initiated trial production of its first electric model, AFEELA 1, at Honda’s East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio under a contract manufacturing agreement with Honda Development & Manufacturing of America. This marks the first step toward mass production ahead of scheduled California deliveries in 2026. Concurrently, SHM opened a dedicated Quality Gate inspection center adjacent to the plant. The facility is equipped to perform advanced function and exterior inspections on each vehicle, verifying operation of 40 onboard sensors, panoramic display systems, in-car AI applications and connectivity stability, as well as surface continuity, reflection uniformity and color accuracy. Data from these inspections are fed back to SHM’s vehicle design team and to Honda’s production lines to refine assembly protocols and stabilize quality, ensuring AFEELA 1 meets the joint venture’s stringent performance and reliability standards.
