Spire won a two-year, $28 million contract from NOAA to advance hyperspectral microwave sounding technology toward operational weather forecasting use.
Work covers building and qualifying a satellite and hyperspectral microwave sounder payload through flight readiness for an orbit supporting NOAA needs.
The contract supports analysis of hyperspectral microwave data impact on numerical weather prediction, including resilience to radio frequency interference.
Operational capability is targeted to begin no later than 2030.
NOAA earlier awarded a $3 million contract extension to continue evaluating data from Spire’s HyMS demonstrator launched in January 2026.
