Starbucks to close another 250 coffeehouses in North America

It expects about 440 global net new store openings in fiscal 2026, down from its earlier target of 600 to 650.
Starbucks said in a regulatory filing it will close 250 underperforming coffeehouses in North America. The closures represent about 1% of its roughly 18,000 regional stores and will result in about $300 million in restructuring charges; most are expected to be completed by the end of fiscal 2026.
The company expects about 440 global net new openings of company-operated and licensed coffeehouses in fiscal 2026, compared with its earlier target of 600 to 650.
CEO Brian Niccol has pursued a turnaround plan that includes shorter wait times and simpler U.S. menus, along with investments in store and kitchen operations and cost cuts. As of July, Starbucks had reported four straight quarters of comparable sales growth.
