Sun Life Financial reported Q3 net income of C$785 million, or C$1.40 per share, compared with C$1.1 billion, or C$1.97 per share, a year earlier. Reported net income in Asia fell 66% to C$123 million, and Sun Life Asset Management gross flows decreased C$7.7 billion, or 18%, from the prior year. National Bank of Canada analysts said the results would likely be overshadowed by negative group disability claims experience in the US segment and another quarter of weaker-than-expected fund flows at MFS.
