Synchrony study finds trust, fraud protection key to AI shopping adoption
SYF•Synchrony’s 2026 consumer study found data security was the top requirement for AI shopping at 82%, while 67% said fraud protection would increase their use of AI. Among consumers considering purchases under $50, 34% accepted automatic AI action; 46% were unwilling to use AI for purchases of $5,000 or more.
1. Trust shapes adoption
Synchrony’s study found data security ranked as the top requirement for AI shopping at 82%, followed by transparency about data use at 77%; time savings ranked at 58%. Fraud protection was the main adoption lever, with 67% saying it would increase their use of AI for shopping. For purchases under $50, 47% wanted AI suggestions for approval and 34% accepted automatic action, while 46% were unwilling to use AI for purchases of $5,000 or more.
