T-Mobile to Beta-Launch Free AI Live-Translation Service as Churn Hits 1.02%
During Q4 2025, T-Mobile’s postpaid phone churn rose by 0.13 points to 1.02% following price hikes and intensified promotions. To curb customer losses, the carrier will beta-launch an AI-powered live-translation service embedded in its network, offering real-time calls in 50+ languages at no extra cost.
1. Rising Postpaid Churn
The carrier reported postpaid phone churn of 1.02% in Q4 2025, up 0.13 percentage points from Q3 after rolling out higher-priced plans and aggressive promotions. This increase underscores challenges in retaining subscribers amid intensified offers from AT&T, Verizon and cable bundlers.
2. AI-Powered Live Translation Service
Starting in spring, a limited beta group can enable the new feature by dialing 87 on any network call; the tool delivers instant translation across more than 50 languages without extra apps or fees. The service operates directly within T-Mobile’s network, enabling seamless real-time interpretation for calls involving any party on the network.
3. Competitive Implications
By embedding AI translation, T-Mobile aims to differentiate its network and reduce churn while traditional rivals lack built-in equivalents. If successful, this could pressure Verizon and AT&T to accelerate AI-based innovations or risk further subscriber losses in a tight market.
