T-Mobile Tops J.D. Power in Five Regions and Adds 2.4M Subscribers
T-Mobile added 2.4 million net customers in the quarter, reaching nearly 140 million subscribers and sustaining double-digit YoY growth, while its 5G broadband business remains small. T-Mobile topped J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Wireless Network Quality Study in five of six regions, reflecting spectrum strength post-Sprint acquisition.
1. Regaining Investment Appeal
T-Mobile US has seen its valuation correct from prior levels that led to a near 25% underperformance versus the broader market in 2025. With a current enterprise value just under $230 billion, the company’s metrics now align more attractively against peers. Analysts point to a price-to-free-cash-flow multiple that has contracted by roughly 20% since its peak, restoring its standing within defensive and dividend-oriented portfolios. This shift has prompted several fund managers to revisit their allocation models, recognizing that the previous overvaluation is no longer a headwind for total-return expectations.
2. Customer Growth and 5G Spectrum Position
During the most recent quarter, T-Mobile added 2.4 million net customers, increasing its total subscriber base to nearly 140 million and delivering double-digit year-over-year growth. Post-Sprint acquisition, the company holds one of the industry’s most robust spectrum portfolios, including substantial mid-band and low-band holdings that underpin its standalone 5G rollout. While its fixed-wireless 5G broadband business remains under 5% of total revenue, management forecasts that this segment could contribute up to $3 billion in annual service revenues over the next three years as coverage densification expands into suburban and rural markets.
3. Network Quality Leadership
In the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Wireless Network Quality Study, customers rated T-Mobile highest in five of six U.S. regions—surpassing its previous best of two regions and ending a 35-report streak with a single carrier leading the category. Independent testing by Opensignal also found T-Mobile topping 12 of 16 measured performance categories, while Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the second half of 2025 placed it as the fastest network across all major U.S. metros. This string of endorsements underscores the success of T-Mobile’s multiyear network investment strategy, driven by nationwide standalone 5G, AI-ready architecture and the early deployment of 5G Advanced technology.
