Tesla Aims for 50,000 Annual Semi Trucks after April 29 Production Start
Tesla launched high-volume production of its Class 8 battery-electric Semi tractor at its Reno factory on April 29 and aims to build many thousands of units, targeting 50,000 annually. It uses shared Cybertruck and Model Y components, will debut two North American variants and enter Europe in 2027.
1. High-Volume Production Launch
Tesla commenced high-volume Semi production at its Reno, Nevada plant on April 29, marking the transition from pilot to mass manufacturing of its Class 8 battery-electric tractor.
2. Annual Production Goal
The company is targeting many thousands of Semi units built by year-end, with a stretch objective of ramping to 50,000 trucks per year once processes are fully optimized.
3. Shared Components Strategy
To accelerate output, Tesla integrates high-volume parts—such as the drive converter, thermal compressor and infotainment screens—shared across Cybertruck, Model 3 and Model Y production, and builds in-house powertrains and e-axles at Reno.
4. Market Expansion Plans
In 2026, Tesla will offer two Semi variants in North America and plans European deliveries in 2027, supported by expanded charging infrastructure including Pilot sites and $20,000 overnight chargers.
