1. TotalEnergies and Tikehau Capital Launch Joint EV Charging Platform in Benelux
TotalEnergies has partnered with Tikehau Capital to create a joint investment platform dedicated to expanding urban electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Belgium and the Netherlands. The newly formed platform will build on public charging projects already under construction in cities such as Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, while competing for new municipal tenders. Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will oversee the development, operation and maintenance of charging stations powered exclusively by certified renewable electricity, leveraging its network expertise. Tikehau Capital will contribute up to €200 million in equity and provide risk-sharing support to accelerate project rollout, with both firms targeting the deployment of 5,000 additional fast-charge points by the end of 2025.
2. Market Leadership and Strategic Impact for Investors
TotalEnergies is already the leading public charging provider in Belgium with over 9,500 points and ranks among the top three operators in the Netherlands with 18,000 points. The joint platform is expected to enhance utilization rates by 20% through integrated digital payment and fleet management solutions. For investors, the partnership represents a low-volatility infrastructure play with an anticipated internal rate of return of 8–10% over a 10-year horizon. The move also aligns with European Green Deal targets to reduce transport sector carbon emissions by 90 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030, positioning TotalEnergies to capture growing public and private fleet electrification demand.
