Toyota’s global sales fell 2.3% year-over-year to 806,905 units in February as China volume declined 13.9% and local production dropped 11.5%, partly due to Lunar New Year timing. A 560,000-vehicle recall in China and Middle East supply disruptions from longer shipping routes add pressure ahead of March production cuts.

1. February Sales Decline

Toyota’s global vehicle deliveries slipped 2.3% year-over-year to 806,905 units in February, marking early strain in key markets. Competitors Honda and Nissan reported larger sales drops of 6.6% and 7.4%, respectively, highlighting broader industry headwinds.

2. China Market Pressure

China sales for Toyota and Lexus brands plunged 13.9% with local production down 11.5%, partly reflecting fewer operating days during the Lunar New Year. Intensifying competition from domestic EV makers is accelerating market share erosion for legacy automakers.

3. Supply Chain Disruptions and Recall

The conflict in the Middle East is forcing aluminum shipments to reroute via the Cape of Good Hope, extending delivery times toward 100 days and prompting Toyota to plan March production cuts. Separately, Toyota’s Chinese joint ventures will recall 560,000 SUVs as part of a global recall of 1.23 million vehicles.
