Toyota Seeks UK, Japan and Turkiye Inclusion to Protect 877,000-Unit EU Output
TM•Toyota Motor Europe produced 877,000 cars and commercial vehicles in 2025 across eight plants with 25,000 employees and 450 suppliers, representing 80% local manufacture. CEO Yoshihiro Nakata urged EU policymakers to adopt technology-neutral rules and recognise UK, Japan and Turkiye as ‘Made in EU’ partners under the Industrial Accelerator Act.
1. Policy Recommendations
At a Brussels event, CEO Yoshihiro Nakata called on EU policymakers to broaden automotive policy by treating the UK, Japan and Turkiye as equivalent to ‘Made in EU’ under the Industrial Accelerator Act. He warned that excluding these partners could undermine investment, job creation, technology transfer and Europe’s global competitiveness.
2. European Production Footprint
In 2025 Toyota Motor Europe’s manufacturing network delivered 877,000 cars and commercial vehicles from eight plants, with 80% of regional sales built locally. The company directly employs 25,000 people and collaborates with over 450 suppliers to support its European industrial presence.
3. Technology-Neutral Decarbonisation Approach
Toyota advocated a multi-pathway decarbonisation strategy within the EU’s Automotive Package, calling for continued deployment of battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles and recognition of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles as strategic solutions.
